Honduras is a Central American country which borders Nicaragua to the South, El Salvador to the West and Guatemala to the North. The capital city is Tegucigalpa, which has a population of more than 1 million inhabitants, and covers an area of around 110,000 square kilometres. Fantastic Caribbean beaches are the most important tourist attraction of the Central American Republic of Honduras. There is also a small Pacific coastline and a larger Atlantic coastline where we find many islands which are ideal for water sports like windsurfing, kite surfing and diving. The official language of Honduras is Spanish, which is spoken in the more than 16 provinces of the country including Copan, La Paz, the Bay Islands, Lempira Yoro and Valle. After the capital city Tegucigalpa, the most important cities are San Pedro Sula and Puerto Cortés. The latter has beaches and an exit to the sea. Puerto Cortés is connected commercially through its port to some of the most well known and important ports in the world. Other important cities in Honduras are La Ceiba, Comayagua, Choluteca, Cholollan, Tela, and Trujillo, all of which have their own special charm and are well worth visiting during your holiday in Honduras.
